Lupita is a first-generation college student who received her B.A. in Psychology and Business Administration with a Neuroscience certificate at Bethel College in Kansas.  As an undergraduate, she completed her senior thesis on behavioral and ERP differences in processing early- and late-acquired words under the mentorship of Dr. Dwight Krehbiel.

She is currently a third-year graduate student in the Cognitive Neuroscience Lab.  Her research investigates the neurocognitive aspects of racial and ethnic bias.  She focuses on how racial bias affects cognitive mechanisms such as attention and memory.  Lupita also uses neuroimaging methods, such as electroencephalography (EEG), to investigate how racial bias affects neural components.  As a graduate student, she is a member of the Diversity Committee and has mentored undergraduates in the psychology department’s Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) program.
